We Rent Cars!
Racing is a lot of fun for the whole family, but getting started can also be a little intimidating.  If you'd like to try the sport, we can help you out.  You can rent a soapbox derby car from the club.  These cars are very competitive, and they come with a helmet, wheels, weights, a driver fitting, and as much free advice as you're willing to listen to.  Please contact our Derby Director for more information.

Fund Raising
The club is currently selling Vande Walle's candy bars. For each box sold, $10 will go into your driver's own personal account to help cover the cost of upcoming local race fees. Please contact us if you are interested in selling candy bars for the club.

New Rules for 2011-2012 PDF Print E-mail

For those who may not have heard yet, it is official.  The All-American board has made some addition rule changes.  Last month they changed the starting age to 7 years old and increased the weight limit on the SuperStock division to 240 lbs.

This week the opportunity to be points eligible for a Rally Championship has been expanded so a driver can now compete in two Rally World Championships using the same car in addition to the one Local World Championship.  Once a car goes to Akron as a champ car, it still can only be used by that Champion.  Please note, that this rule change is currently listed as being valid for the 2011-2012 rally season.

Local Champions Joseph LaSage and Andre Sanchez

Four local racers made the trip to Akron, Ohio at the end of July to participate in the Soap Box Derby World Championships along with our two Super Kids racers who participated in the National Super Kids Classic race.

Mackenzie Cadman of DePere earned her trip to Akron as a Stock division Rally Champion for Region 5.  In 2010, she won the Local Championship in her first official race event.  In the 2010-2011 Rally season she took 3 first places and a second place in the Green Bay Fall Rally to create a great start at a Rally Championship.  She followed that up with some great driving in the Green Bay Spring Rally to be seventh in Region 5 to earn the opportunity to race in the World Championships.  Mackenzie also piloted for our Super Kid program and helped John McDonald become our first official Local Super Kid Champion.  Great job Mackenzie!

Joseph LeSage of Sobieski also raced hard all Rally season and had earned a spot in the Stock division as a Rally Champion for Region 5.  However, he took even higher honors by winning the Local Championship for the Green Bay area in June to represent the area as our Local Champion.

matthew-superstockcar-akronBoth Mackenzie and Joseph tuned up their cars and enjoyed a wonderful time down in Akron.  Each were eliminated in the first round of competition.  Three drivers go down the hill and only one moves on.

Andre Sanchez has been racing for several years now and has participated in the World Championships in Akron as a Stock Local and Rally Champion.  He took 5th place in the World Championships in the Stock division.  This year he raced year round in the Super Stock division and had earned enough points to represent Region 5 as a Rally Champion.  He too, however, was blessed with a fantastic Local Championship victory and represented the Green Bay area as our Local Champion.  Andre was also able to win his first heat in the championships.  He was then taken out of the competition in the second round preventing him from making the trophy rounds this time.  I’m sure he will be back again for another attempt.

Matthew with 6th place trophyMatthew Miszewski raced year round in his Super Stock car and was able to accumulate 192 points to finish in the top position within Region 5 for his division which also placed him 7th in the nation for Rally points.  Matthew had already participated in the World Championships in 2007 and 2008 in the Stock division where he managed to take a 9th place in the Stock Rally Championships in 2008.  He returned in 2010 as the Super Stock Local Champion and was eliminated in the first round.  This year, in his second visit with the same car, he managed to surpass his Stock car finish and take a 6th place at the World Championships.  What a wonderful accomplishment to place in the trophy rounds 2 out of 4 attempts.  Matthew has now moved to the Masters division for his final two years of eligibility to see if he can improve on his championship titles.  We wish Matthew the best in quickly learning how to tune and drive in the Masters division.

Green Bay Super Kids National Championships PDF Print E-mail

Alex Kemper and John McDonald took to the hill today at Derby Downs in an attempt to place in the Super Kids National Championships.  Alex Kemper had a fine showing but was squeeked out of competition by a mere .048 seconds.  John McDonald put up a good fight racin neck and neck the whole way down the hill only to get squeeked out of competition at the finish line.

We are very proud of both out Super Kids who represented Green Bay.  Congratulations to both of you on a job well done!
